Legal obligation
In accordance with the Human Organs, Tissues and Cell Donation Act (Chapter 558), including subsequent updates that permit certification of death using either neurological or circulatory criteria, the Superintendent of Public Health is legally required to maintain up to date and peer reviewed guidelines for the diagnosis of death for the purposes of organ, tissue and cell donation.
